The goal of the Federation is to provide an organized framework for the modern, sport-level practice of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). Our activities are not limited to a single weapon: in addition to longsword fencing, we provide regular training and competition opportunities for rapier, saber, messer, dagger, and other historical disciplines. Our key mission is to revitalize the lost fencing skills of these martial arts and to coordinate the research of historical sources across all weapon types. Our aim is to enable fencers to test and measure their acquired knowledge in a sporting environment. We hope that many people – whether reenactors, historical researchers, or simply those looking for a new sport – will discover this discipline and place their trust in it.
